I woke up this morning at around 7AM, which is actually sleeping in for me on a weekend. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and set off to grab a cup of joe before hitting the waves over at Tourmaline. A couple cool things happened, other than catching waves. I sat out in the lineup with the master shaper himself, Skip Frye. I didn’t say anything, but just listened. He had a bunch of pointers to give to some surfer who recently bought a custom board off of him. Neat. Oh the other cool thing… I missed “grimace” by about 2 feet. Grimace is a rock that is exposed during low tide and if you’re not careful, you may loose a fin… or a combination of a fin and your center box!
